TOMAHAWK — A four-wheeler accident on Rockhouse Road in Tomahawk left one woman dead Sunday.

Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Billy Patrick reported that 60-year-old Muriel Sondra “Sam” Penix of Hartville, Ohio, was transported to Highlands ARH, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Patrick says the accident happened around 1 p.m. when Penix and Michelle Webster of Richfield, Ohio, were riding an ATV. The two women started up a steep hill, and the ATV flipped backward on them, landing on Penix.

Webster tried pushing the ATV off Penix with her legs before another person helped move it.

Webster told the deputy that Penix rolled over and said she could not stand up.

Webster went up the hill to get cell service to call 911. When she returned, Penix was not responding, so they loaded her on the side-by-side and brought her off the mountain to meet the ambulance.

Penix leaves behind her husband Larry, two sons and three stepchildren. Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Crum Funeral Home.
