“Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” I Peter 5:5-6
How would you like to face each day fending off a resistance movement orchestrated by God? Sounds like a “no-win” situation, doesn’t it? It is, and unfortunately for many today it’s their reality. They have the worst of what they would call “luck,” a real “hard knocks” life, all because they are living without the grace of God that could be theirs. Why? Because God doesn’t love them? No! Rather because their pride is keeping them from the help we all desperately need to be everyday overcomers.
For many weeks now we have written of our higher calling in the Lord—the calling of a Christian. We are called to conform to the faith of Christ, and specifically, to allow those beliefs to mold and shape our thoughts, words, deeds, and progressively, our character. Once we receive Christ as our Savior, our next steps in our walk with him should be the development of the character of God in our lives. It’s not the easiest task for us, but it is a God-given responsibility and one that we should take seriously. What’s more, it’s a task that enables us to reap otherwise unobtainable rewards from the Lord, both in this life and in the one to come.
