Hot batting has not been enough for the Martin County Cardinals baseball team in their last four outings.

The Cards hosted Pike Central (16-13) May 9 and fell behind in the final stretch to lose 5-0. On May 10 they traveled to Shelby Valley (18-9) where they kept the Wildcats close 7-3. May 14 was a doubleheader at Floyd Central (11-18) with the scores 17-7 and 10-7.

Below is a recap of last week’s action.

PC vs. MC

Both teams were scoreless through six innings. Errors proved to be too costly for Martin County and the Pike Central Hawks scored all five runs in the top of the seventh to leave with the win. The Cardinals, with plentiful opportunities, left 10 runners on base for the game.

Defense kept the game gridlocked at 0-0. The Hawks knocked 10 pitches to the outfield, keeping Colin Horn, Evan Crum, Aiden Horn and Brody Howell busy in the green. The group of outfielders cleaned 9 of the 10 up. Greyden Proctor would get the Cards’ first two hits of the game in the first and third innings. Chase Preece picked up a double in the fifth and Damien Cheek had the fourth and final hit of the game in the bottom of the seventh.
