Cards tennis over KCC

HINDMAN — Coach Josh Penix and his Cardinals tennis teams traveled to Knott County Central to pick up wins. The girls team outlasted to win their matchups 4-3, and the boys would go head-to-head and win by one, 5-4.

On the singles side, Caitlyn Horn fell to Fitzpatrick 8-4 but would play again to win in a tiebreaker over Gibson. Kennedy Mills lost to Short 8-1. Dakota Ward dominated 6-0 over Hughes. Emma Gulley would be defeated 6-3 by Adams.

Horn and Mills partnered up for the first doubles match and overpowered Fitzpatrick and Short 6-4. The duo of Ward and Gulley would control the match from the get-go 6-0.

Boys singles would even up at 3-3 with Caleb Horn putting on a show over Branham 8-1. Austin Washburn could not overcome Honeycutt to be defeated 8-1. BJ Parsley won 6-3 over Williams. Elbert Smith lost 6-1 to Bailey. Aaron Mills “conned” his opponent E. Conn into a 6-1 defeat. Levi Howell lost a close match to Combs by the score of 6-4.

Parsley and Howell would team up to win a thrilling tiebreaker over Williams and Combs. Smith/Marcum fell in their doubles match 8-0. Washburn and Horn would get the best of Smith and Bailey with a compelling 6-1 victory.

The 15th Region Tournament started Tuesday at Bob Amos Park in Pikeville.
