Lady Cards win one of three

Martin County split a pair of games on the road Saturday against Morgan County after dropping contests Thursday to Prestonsburg at home and Friday to Johnson Central on the road.

Below is a recap of the action.

Game 1

Saturday’s first game against Morgan County was a heartbreaker for the Lady Cardinals, as they lost the lead late in a 6-3 defeat.

The game was tied at 3 with Morgan County batting in the bottom of the fourth when Taylor Sword doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring three runs.

Martin County lost despite out-hitting Morgan County Cougars Varsity 8-7.

Zoie Hinkle took the loss for Martin County. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out five.

Martin County tallied eight hits. Hannah Stacy and Brittany Thompson had two hits apiece for Martin County. Zoie Hinkle, Skyla Messer, Keilan Jewell and Brynn Smith had a hit each.

Jewell batted in two runs while Stacy batted in one.
