John Craige Adler, M.D.

1920—2022

John Craige Adler, M.D., age 101, of Rockford, Tenn., passed away peacefully March 30, 2022, at Tennessee State Veterans Home in Knoxville.

He was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Ft. Worth, Texas, and raised in Chestnut Hill, Pa., and New York City.

As a child, Dr. Adler attended Fieldston School, part of the Society for Ethical Culture founded by his grandfather, Felix Adler. A WWII Veteran, he served in the 10th Mountain Division.

Dr. Adler received his B.S. at Swarthmore College and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, Dr. Adler moved to Tennessee to practice medicine and to be near the mountains. He operated a clinic in Inez for several years, from the 1970s to the 1990s.

He was an avid hiker and lover of the outdoors and Appalachian culture and lifestyle.

He is survived by his niece, Lisa Adler, great-niece, Grace Adler and his many devoted friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
