INEZ — The Martin County School District will hire three response to intervention teachers to work specifically with elementary students who fell behind during the COVID pandemic.
“We just completed our third round of MAP scoring at K-8 schools, and basically, COVID has hit us, along with everyone else in the country, hard,” Martin County School District Superintendent Larry James told school board members in a meeting Monday at central office. “Test scores are not where they need to be.”
James specified the MAP test is not KETS.
“We test in the fall, winter and spring, and you can see that they start low,” said James. “We’re improving in some areas, but not as much as we would like. I would like to have three RTI teachers, one for each elementary school to work with our lowest-performing kids.”
