What is your education/work background?
I graduated from Sheldon Clark High School in 1981. I do have a few years of college. I have been in the workforce since I was 16 years old. I worked at the Mountain Citizen newspaper for several years before I started working for the Martin County Clerk’s Office.
What professional experience do you have that qualifies you to be the county clerk?
I am in my eighth year as the Martin County Clerk and have worked in the Clerk’s Office for 17 years. I started as a Deputy Clerk, then was promoted to Chief Deputy Clerk.
In no more than 500 words, tell us what makes you the best candidate for County Clerk?
Experience, Passion and Dedication. The commodity our office trades in is trust. When you run for office, get married, license your vehicle, record your deeds or pay your taxes, you need to have faith that the officials serving you will do so in a fair, kind and efficient manner.
During my time in office, I’ve had the privilege of working with some amazing clerks and have developed great relationships in our community. We have built a reputation that I am proud to stand behind.
After the former Clerk decided to retire in 2014, I felt this was the perfect job because I love the work and the people who walk into the office.
• I have 17 years of experience in the Martin County Clerk’s Office and am in my eighth year as County Clerk. I have been trained in all areas of this office.
• I attend Clerk’s training every year to stay on top of all changes that happen within the state. I also attended training each year with the former Clerk.
• I try to help everyone who comes to the Clerk’s Office in any way I can. I require my staff to go above and beyond to help.
• I am a people person.
• I am determined.
• I am a hard worker.
• I am outgoing.
• I will always put the people first.
• I treat everyone the same.
I am honored to be serving the residents of Martin County.
Thank you.
