Coach Wesley Hager’s Martin County Cardinals won two of three games last week.

The Cards defeated Tug Valley 6-2 on the road March 28 before Hager notched his first career win over his dad Shawn Hager’s Floyd Central 13-4 in a game March 30 at Cardinal Stadium. The Cards ran out of steam Thursday in a 20-5 loss to Belfry at home.

“This was a week of highs and lows,” Wesley Hager said. “I told the boys not to dwell on last week, put it behind us and move on to the next day. Even though we ended the week on a bad note, we still had a lot of positive takeaways.”

This week, Martin County is in action in the 15th Region All A Classic.

“We had a great practice Friday and are resting up this weekend to hopefully make a run in the All A,” said Coach Hager. “We are pretty banged up, and this weather is taking its toll on us right now. Hopefully, Thursday woke us up, and we will play with fire this week and respond in a big way.”
