FRANKFORT — Martin County High School JAG KY seniors Allicen Grayson and Hannah Muncy are two of the first four recipients of the $10,000 AT&T John “Bam” Carney Scholarship for JAG seniors majoring in education.
Grayson and Muncy and the two other recipients, Brooklyn Brock of Bell County and Erik Layne Bruner of Barboursville, were recognized Friday on the House floor at the Kentucky State Capitol. They were recognized individually in the gallery during the announcements and then brought to the floor for recognition by Speaker of the House David Osborne and again by Representative Norma Kirk-McCormick.
Each recipient is eligible for $2,500 annually for four years.
Representative Carney was a beloved Taylor County educator prior to running for public office and later being elected as the House Majority Leader. The scholarship was established in his memory to provide post-secondary educational opportunities to JAG KY participants committed to pursuing a degree in a Kentucky college or university.
The Bam Carney family, AT&T Kentucky’s Hollie Spade, and JAG KY’s George Stafford and Marcie Hanson were also in attendance for this prestigious event.
