INEZ — Martin County Middle School Lady Cards Soccer kicked off the season with a 4-0 win over Boyd County at home Thursday.
Last season the Lady Cards lost 1-0 at Boyd County, and this looked to be a close one as well.
The Lady Cards are still a young team, only losing two eighth-graders last season and one this season.
“Almost the entire team returned this season, which is huge for us,” Lady Cards coach Steven Gauze said.
From the opening kickoff, the Lady Cards went to work on offense. Midfielder Faith Caldwell moved the ball quickly for Martin County, keeping Boyd County on the defensive end.
Forwards Annaleigh Davis and Kailynn Maynard kept the Lion back line busy with constant pressure.
Maynard started breaking the defense down and had five shots on goal over the next 10 minutes, scoring two.
