WARFIELD — Eight Martin County Middle School students earned top awards at the East Kentucky Regional Science and Engineering Fair Thursday and will move on to state competition this weekend.

Martin County students competed with students from 13 other counties in Eastern Kentucky — Breathitt, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Wolfe.

Initially, the competition was set for March 12 at the East Kentucky Science Center and postponed due to weather.

Students submitted entries and did interviews virtually and judging started Thursday.

“These students’ amazing projects are moving on to state competition,” said MCMS teacher Denise Butcher. “We are beyond proud of all the hard work and effort put in by each student.”
