INEZ — Gov. Andy Beshear was in Inez last week to announce Cleaner Water Program funding for the Martin County Water District and deliver a message of hope.
The governor joined officials and residents Friday in the Historic Martin County Courthouse.
“First, let me say what an incredible courthouse,” Beshear said.
“Today, we’re going to announce a major project funded by $411,148,” said Beshear. “It’s a project that does the right thing and a project that was created the right way. The project does the right thing because, I think you all know more than anybody, clean drinking water is a basic human right, and every single Kentuckian deserves to enjoy that right.”
Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and administered by the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority, $250 million was appropriated at the close of the 2021 General Assembly through a bipartisan agreement for clean drinking water and wastewater grants to fund projects across Kentucky. The Big Sandy Area Development District submitted the funding request for Martin County to the KIA.
